Adventure Programs and Education (APE) offers a broad range of trips and instructional courses that help you explore the beauty of Colorado. Call to schedule private trips, special group excursions or a custom adventure package. Our full-time, certified outdoor professionals can teach you the necessary skills for good decision-making in the great outdoors. Programs are structured with the highest regard for customer service, safety and preservation of the environment. Come talk to our outdoor staff at the Outdoor Recreation Complex and learn more about what adventures the Rocky Mountains have to offer.

Water Based Programs

Whitewater Rafting

Enjoy a fun and wild ride through Big Horn Sheep Canyon on the mighty Arkansas River.  You will be a key element as your guide calls out commands and steers you through some of Colorado’s most classic rapids. No experience is necessary. Individuals must be able to swim, weigh a minimum of 60 lbs., and be at least 8 years old.   Spots fill up quickly, so reserve your trip today!

Dates: Every Saturday from June 2 through August 18

Cost: $60 per individual, $55 per person for groups of 5+, Ages 8-15 $40 a person.

Time: 7a - 3p

 

Inflatable Kayaking

More stable and beginner friendly than a “hard-boat,” inflatable kayaks are another fun way to get out on the water. We’ll run a section of class I-II water, learn about river safety, and enjoy a day in the sun out on the river. No experience necessary Individuals must be able to swim, weigh a minimum of 100 lbs., and be at least 14 years old.

Dates: Every Saturday from August 25 through September 29

Cost: $50 per individual

Time: 7a - 3p

 

Stand Up Paddle Board (SUP)

Come glide with us and learn the essentials fo SUP, as we get out there and enjoy a Colorado Springs Lake. No experience necessary, however, Individuals must be able to swim.

Dates: Every other Tuesday from June 12 through July 24

Cost: $20 per individual

Time: 5:30p - 8:30p

 

SUP in the Great Outdoors

Spend the day with us as we go to different lakes or reserviours each Saturday to see the mountains and colors change. Trip may include some hiking. No experience necessary, however, Individuals must be able to swim. Waterway options: Twin Lakes, Crystal Creek Reservior, Chessman Lake, Deweese Reservoir, Lake Meredith, or Kite Lake.

Dates: August 25, September 1, 8, 29

Cost: $50 per individual

Time: 7:30a - 5:30p

 

Rock Based Programs

Morning in the Garden

In this class we will be ascending rock formations in the Garden of the Gods. While climbing you will be able to see why Colorado has some majestic mountains. The class will meet up at Garden of the Gods Vistor Center.

Dates: June 3, 17   July 1, 15, 29    August 25    September 8, 22    October 6

Cost: $45 per individual

Time: 8a - 12p

 

Climbing Wall Orientation

This introductory class will cover knots, belay techniques and climbing communication.  After completion, you will be certified to climb the indoor climbing walls located at the Outdoor Recreation Center & Iron Horse Gym.

Dates: May 31   June 7, 21  July 12, 26   August 2, 16   September 6, 20    October 4, 18

Cost: $20 per individual

Time: 5:30p - 7:30p

Specialty Trips

Outdoor Recreation will be supporting these upcoming MWR events.

Octoberfest on Oct 13th with the portable rock wall, inflatables, cotton candy, popcorn, soda, & water.

Auto Shop of Horrors on Oct 20th with the portable rock wall, inflatables, cotton candy, popcorn, soda, & water.

Ski & Snowboard Expo

 

This year's Ski & Snowboard Expo is going to be different! 

This year we will have a VIP Night. During the evening patrons will have first look and first opportunity to buy discounted used gear as well as discounted winter apparel. Drinks and Hors d'oeuvres will be available.

Date: November 2nd

Cost: $20 advance tickets through ODR or Eventbrite.  $25 a the door

Time: 4p - 8p

Where: at the Hub BLDG 1532

 

The actual Ski & Snowboard Expo will be held in conjection with the Sweaty Sweater Run.

During the expo patrons will find everything to fit ski or snowboard needs. Representatives from many Colorado ski resorts will be on hand so you can purchase season passes.
