FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is the Strong Soldier Competition?
The Fort Carson Strong Soldier Competition (FCSSC) is an event that is similar to the Strongman competitions you may have seen on TV. The FCSSC is a five part athletic event that consists of a stone ladder, a carry medley, an axle bar dead lift, Military press using a log, and a mystery event that will be revealed on the day of the event.


When is the FCSSC?
The event will be held on Saturday, 19 October 2019.
(Always the third weekend of October)


Who is allowed to participate:
Anyone with a valid DoD ID card is allowed to participate. This includes AD, Reserve, Guard, Civilian, Retirees, and Family Members.

WARNING: This is a strenuous and challenging event. Competitors
should only register for this event if they are medically cleared and have been properly training for this event. The Event Coordinator reserves the right to withdraw a contestant in the interest of safety and welfare of the individual and the
participants of the event.


Can I practice the lifts before the event?
Absolutely. Fort Carson Strong Soldier Training Camp is held every
Wednesday 1200-1300 at Garcia FC (starting the first Wednesday of September).

 

Where is Garcia Fitness Center?
Garcia Fitness Center is located at 6360 Porter Street, Building 1856, Fort Carson.

 

How are contestants divided?
Contestants are divided into gender and weight categories. Five weight classes for men and three weight classes for women. Weight are determined by the number of participants. This will be an event day decision.


Can I wear wrist straps?
Yes, you may use straps that support your wrists. You may not wear straps that go around the bar to assist your grip. Just remember "skin on the bar" for the competition.

 

Can I wear a lifting belt?
Yes. You may wear compression shorts and/or shirts as well. Shoes are mandatory.

 

How do I register for the FCSSC?
Contestants can start registering starting Friday, 18 October 2019, 0900. Every competitor must weigh in at Garcia FC. Registration will close at 0800 on 28 October 20917. The event starts at 0900.

 

How do I register for the Team FCSSC?
First select a team captain. This person will be in charge of working with the
Event Coordinator to determine your overall team score. There is no extra cost to identify yourself with a team. The team consists of as many individuals as you would like. However, only one person per event will score team points. All of your
team members must be from your Battalion level. At least one of your team members must be a female. Team members must be identified prior to 0900 on 19 October 2019. Team captains are encouraged to meet with the event coordinator
(Mr. David Falls, 526-3944) prior to the event to iron out any details.
