Inclusive, Uplifting Support to Families

Caring for a Family member with special needs can be challenging, especially while serving in the military. The Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP) is here to make sure no Family faces it alone.

Kids playing together

EFMP is required for service members who have a Family member with special medical, emotional, developmental, or educational needs. The goal is simple: to make sure your Family gets the right care and support wherever the Army sends you.

What you get from EFMP:

  • Coordinated support. We connect you with medical care, school services, housing, and community programs, both on and off post.
  • Easier PCS moves. EFMP helps plan ahead for childcare, schools, and healthcare before you relocate, so fewer surprises await when you arrive.
  • Career protection. EFMP enrollment does not hurt promotions, schools, or assignments, and EFMP information is private and not seen by selection boards.
  • Support for daily life. We offer classes, support groups, respite care, and Systems Navigators who help you through the process.

Every EFMP office has two main sides:

  • Medical EFMP, which handles enrollment, updates, and overseas screenings.
  • Family Support (ACS), which helps you find resources, set goals, and connect with schools, CYS, and local programs.
