- In 1986, the 15th U.S. Secretary of Defense Caspar Weinberger established Month of the Military Child (MOMC).
- The Month of the Military Child was established to underscore the important role children play in the Armed Forces community.
- Care of military children sustains our fighting force; and strengthens the health, security, and safety of our nation’s families and communities.

- Currently, there are 215,000 children/youth registered in 69 CYS programs, including 192 child development centers, 157 school age centers and middle school and teen centers across the world.
