Month of the Military Child

CRSN-MOMC.jpgDuring the national observance of the Month of the Military Child (MOMC) the Army recognizes and honors the commitment, contributions and sacrifices Army children and youth make to our nation through the strength they provide our Soldiers and Families.

History of the MOMC

  • In 1986, the 15th U.S. Secretary of Defense Caspar Weinberger established Month of the Military Child (MOMC).
  • The Month of the Military Child was established to underscore the important role children play in the Armed Forces community.
  • Care of military children sustains our fighting force; and strengthens the health, security, and safety of our nation’s families and communities.
  • There are approximately 2 million military children, ranging in ages from newborn to 18 years old; 1.3 million military children are school-aged. (2017 NCTSN)
  • Currently, there are 215,000 children/youth registered in 69 CYS programs, including 192 child development centers, 157 school age centers and middle school and teen centers across the world.
