October is national Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Fort Carson ACS is honoring victims and survivors of Domestic Violence with a 5K Run/Walk at Iron Horse Park on October 3rd from 10am-2pm.
Bring your leashed public friendly pets to the DVAM 5K Run/Walk to show your support!
Often ignored, pets play a significant role in domestic violence.
- Approximately 71% of women in domestic violence shelters say their abuser threatened, hurt, or killed a pet.
- Nearly 50% of victims stay with an abuser because they can't leave their pet behind.
- Fewer than 1 in 5 domestic violence shelters in the U.S. accept pets.
- 1 in 4 survivors go back because their abuser uses their pet to control them.
- Pets matter. Survivors need safe options for their furry family.
