New Volunteer Orientation: VMIS and OPOC Training

All volunteers are required to record their service hours in the Army’s Volunteer Management Information System (VMIS).

When: Last Wednesday of each month

Time: 1330–1500

Where: ACS Main Center, Building 1526, Room 213
This training includes:

New Volunteer Orientation

VMIS Training

OPOC (Organizational Point of Contact) Training
Training Requirements
Attendance is mandatory for all new volunteers and OPOCs.

Volunteers: Learn expectations for both the individual and the unit/organization. Training covers Army regulations related to volunteer service and includes a hands-on demonstration of VMIS features such as:

Entering service hours

Applying for volunteer positions

Uploading earned awards

OPOCs: Training covers:

Basics of volunteer recruitment, retention, and recognition

VMIS functions for tracking volunteers and service hours

Required paperwork to comply with Army regulations

Advantages of Using VMIS

Army-wide system: Used across all installations.

Portability: Volunteers can continue service seamlessly from post to post without re-registering.

Service member benefits: Hours tracked in VMIS generate DD4162 and DD4713 forms, supporting award/citation/medal requests.

Family benefits: Spouses and family members can track hours for resumes, academic programs (e.g., National Honor Society), and college applications.

Permanent record: VMIS serves as a repository, storing all service information for future reference.

Volunteers may also log hours served with any non-profit organization (501c3 or 501c6) in Colorado Springs or Manitou through VMIS.
