FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
TAX ID # - Is my gift tax deductible? The Army is not a 501 organization. However, under certain circumstances, gifts to the Federal Government may be tax deductible under the provisions of 26 USC 170 (c)(1). We CANNOT provide specific tax advice, so the donor must consult a tax professional. If a donation is made, a memo accepting the donation and thanking the donor will be provided – which may act as a "receipt".
Can my business be advertised for the gift? Gifts cannot be officially endorsed or commercially advertised. To ensure brand visibility, marketing opportunities or promotional recognition, we recommend you reach out to our MWR Advertising and Commercial Sponsorship program.
Can I donate specifically to a unit's Soldier and Family Readiness Group? Maybe. Within limits, a unit commander can accept gifts that are entirely unsolicited into the SFRG Informal Fund but cannot exceed acceptance nor income cap limits.
Will my donation create a conflict of interest or the appearance of endorsement? All gift proffers are strictly reviewed to prevent this. Every gift offer must undergo a legal review by the Fort Carson Staff Judge Advocate (SJA). The Army cannot accept gifts that create a conflict of interest (i.e. from defense contractors or prohibited sources).
